She-Is • PSA Premiere & Fundraiser
September 2017

SERVICE DESCRIPTION
For our August volunteer opportunity, we explored skilled volunteering by producing a PSA. With our all-female volunteer team, we were able to produce, shoot, and edit a beautiful dance video that captures the powerful mission of She-Is. More info here.
In late September, we hosted a PSA Premiere & Fundraiser Party. Guests enjoyed an open bar and hors d'oeuvres, witnessed the Premiere of our PSA and participated in our silent auction to benefit She-Is, featuring donations from local community members.
FUNDRAISER RECAP
On Thursday, September 28th, we celebrated the work of She-Is with a fundraiser at Muse Studio City. 86 guests attended, dining on hors d'oeuvres, a beautiful cheeseboard [donated by Annie Campbell], and sweet treats [donated by Magnolia Bakery and Nestle], and sipping on an open bar of beer, wine and a specialty spicy margarita [donated by Annie Campbell].
We were absolutely thrilled to partner with Nasty Women Portraits for this event. Nasty Women Portraits (NWP for those in the know) is a feminist organization that uses photography to promote badass feminist leaders and support causes that benefit the lives of women. Guests had their portraits taken by NWP: See the full gallery here.
Guests had the opportunity to participate in a 50/50 raffle and bid on amazing silent auction prizes, donated from our local community. Prizes included: Apple Watch, Valencia Golf Packages, a Basket from Pilates Studio City, VIP Tickets to The Broad, Restaurant Gift Certificates, Tickets to The Laugh Factory Comedy Club, Private Bodywork Session with Jillian Szafranksi, Tickets to Real Time with Bill Maher and The Late Late Show with James Corden, to name a few! View all of the silent auction items here.
In total, the evening raised $2463.34 for She-Is!
Ticket sales from this event paid for expenses incurred for the PSA, as well as covered party costs. Net proceeds from ticket sales went to She-Is. 100% of silent auction and 50/50 raffle proceeds went to She-Is. resisterhoodLA does not make a profit or take a salary from our events!
This event would not have been possible without the time and energy of Barb Holmes, who coordinated many of our silent auction donations, in-kind party donations, and prepared the beautiful spread of hors d'oeurves. We are so grateful.
A very, very special thanks to our event volunteers:

ABOUT SHE-IS
SHE-IS is a LA based Non-Profit organization dedicated to providing a supportive environment for young girls who are survivors of sexual abuse and sex trafficking. We inspire young girls between the ages of 11-18 to re-take control of their body, to overcome feelings of shame, anger, mistrust and betrayal, while reinforcing a new sense of pride in themselves. And we do all this by the healing power of dance.
SHE-IS provides a support system by partnering up with existing non-profits, offering dance classes at various locations in the greater offering services worldwide. Dance is an interconnection between body, mind, and spirit that can provide emotional, physical, and social support after life changing traumas. Dance has proven to be therapeutically effective through non-verbal expression of body and mind.
