LA Works Day
August 2017

SERVICE DESCRIPTION
For this event, L.A. Works will create “stations” for teams of volunteers to rotate through with nonprofit leaders facilitating activities and interactive learning opportunities at each location. Stations may include activities like sorting food or clothing donations; assembling hygiene kits; making blankets; and education and action for advocacy/voting/legislation. The event will include advocacy workshops designed to raise awareness and activate year-round collective civic engagement towards solving the city’s chronic homeless crisis.
We will be collaborating with nonprofit organizations dedicated to eliminating homelessness among youth and families through housing and supportive services in high need regions ranging from Hollywood, Downtown LA, South LA and West LA. Community partner ambassadors will be onsite to co-lead hands-on service projects while advocacy projects will be co-lead by community-based organizations and governmental agencies.
EVENT RECAP
At Saturday’s Pop-Up Volunteer Event: L.A. Works Day 2017, our volunteers’ combined efforts assembled over 2,000 hygiene kits, 1,600 PB&J sandwiches, collected over 500 cans of non-perishable food, and made hundreds of blankets distributed to 25 nonprofit organizations across Los Angeles. You can continue to learn about and serve these organizations (and more!) by getting connected through the LA Works website.
We also heard powerful presentations from CASA, LA Housing Authority, United Way and a CSH Speak Up Advocate.
