SERVICE DESCRIPTION
LA Family Housing (LAFH) helps people transition out of homelessness and poverty by providing a continuum of housing enriched with supportive services. Welcome Home Baskets are provided to families and individuals when they leave the shelter to move into their own permanent housing with the help of LAFH’s case managers.
Moving into permanent housing is an exciting time for residents as they continue on their journey of transitioning out of homelessness. But it can also be an overwhelming time, as they take on the challenges of managing a budget and meeting rent. By providing the residents with a Welcome Home Basket, you are helping to ensure they get off to a great start by meeting their basic household needs. You are also showing them they their community cares about them and wants to see them succeed.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about being a poor philanthropist. I wish I could donate to every cause, but the fact is: I don’t have a lot of disposable income. What I do have is time, a network, and a love of planning events. Last week, I posted our Welcome Home Basket graphic on Facebook & Instagram, asking friends to contribute $1 – $5, with a goal of raising $50 to build ONE basket… By the end of the day, I raised $330.40 by collecting small contributions from friends. Together, we were able to build SEVEN baskets. What is in your bank: Money? Time? Skills? Passion?
The team at LA Family Housing could not be more appreciative. They wanted me to let you know that you can do this project anytime, year-round! If you can’t donate an entire basket, that’s OK! No donation is too small.
